Fine up to 100 euros: 200 people caught walking on the ice of the river and sea in Riga

Over the weekend, more than 200 people in Riga violated the ban on going out on the ice, according to aggregated information from the Riga municipal police.

From the ice of the Daugava, the police removed 86 people, while in Vecaki, 60 people were sent from the coastal ice of the public waters of the Riga administrative territory to the shore.

In turn, about 100 people were removed from the ice on the Daugava near Mangalsala.

As reported by bb.lv, on Saturday, the order of the executive director of the Riga City Council, Janis Lange, prohibiting being on the ice of the Daugava came into effect. At the same time, it was decided to clear the Riga Gulf of people as well.

For being on the ice during the ban, a person may receive a warning or be fined up to 100 euros.

The police do not report how many ice walkers were decided to be admonished and how many were fined.
