A memorial in Switzerland catches fire in memory of the victims of the fire

The memorial dedicated to the victims of the deadly fire at a New Year's party in Switzerland caught fire early on Sunday, likely due to candles that were left burning inside. This was reported by The Guardian, as noted by "European Truth."

The memorial was an improvised place of remembrance for 41 people who died and 115 who were injured as a result of a fire that broke out early on January 1 at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana, which was predominantly filled with teenagers and young people.

It was adorned with flowers, candles, and condolence messages and was set up near the site of the tragedy. The blaze occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on Sunday, the regional police of the southwest canton of Valais in Switzerland reported in a statement.

"Thanks to the quick intervention of emergency services, the fire was quickly brought under control," the police stated.

According to them, no one was injured during the fire at the memorial, although "several memorial items were damaged by the flames."

The police stated that a large book of remembrance, filled with condolence messages left by those who visited the memorial over the past five weeks, was saved.

The police reported that an investigation into the cause of the fire at the memorial, which was originally placed in front of the burned bar but was recently moved a little further away, has been initiated.

"Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started near the candles placed on a table in the center of the memorial. At this stage, the involvement of third parties can be ruled out," the statement said.
