The tragedy in Rezekne on January 29, when the bodies of a man born in 1991 and a child born in 2024 were found in one of the apartments, allegedly occurred because the father took the child's life, reported the Chief of the State Police Armands Ruks on the TV channel TV3.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident as part of a criminal process. Examinations have been appointed to determine the causes of death of the man and the child. Initial information does not indicate the involvement of other individuals in the crime.
Ruks reported that the tragedy in Rezekne occurred in a divorced family that had not previously come to the attention of responsible services.
On that day, the child was left under the care of the father while the mother was at work. During the investigation, the version is being checked that the father took the child's life and then committed suicide. As part of the investigation, the police intend to thoroughly examine why the situation escalated to a tragic outcome, said the Chief of the State Police.
