As part of criminal proceedings regarding possible illegal actions in the regional hospitals of Liepaja and Ogre, seven officials have been detained.

According to the Bureau for Prevention and Combating Corruption (KNAB), anti-corruption authorities have grounds to believe that state officials from both hospitals may have colluded with at least two suppliers of medical goods to ensure the victory of these companies in a number of public procurements.

KNAB confirmed that it is conducting procedural actions in both hospitals today, as well as at more than 20 other locations.

The procedural actions are being carried out within the framework of two criminal proceedings initiated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) and transferred to KNAB for investigation within its jurisdiction, as well as one criminal proceeding initiated by KNAB itself.

Seven people have been detained as part of the investigation.

Currently, the KNAB investigation is in its most active phase, and the disclosure of additional information may harm the collection and securing of evidence.

The Executive Director of the Liepaja Municipality, Ronalds Fritzbergs, who is a representative of the hospital's shareholder, confirmed to the LETA agency that KNAB officials are conducting procedural actions at the Liepaja hospital. Due to the fact that the members of the hospital's board have signed non-disclosure agreements, no further details will be disclosed, Fritzbergs stated.

It is not possible to contact the chairman of the board of the Ogre District Hospital, Dainis Shirovs (National Alliance) — his phone is turned off. Is he sitting in handcuffs behind bars?
