The blown-up house, where two people died, has been declared habitable – of course, after repairs

Based on the conclusion of a certified construction expert, the residential building on Bauskas Street in Riga, which was damaged as a result of the explosion, has been declared technically suitable for restoration, and the municipality will provide support to apartment owners.

Local authorities promise to finance the demolition of dangerous structures, as well as provide support for the repair of residential premises of up to 10,000 euros for each apartment.

A decision on the restoration of the building must be made by 74 apartment owners. The Riga municipality owns four apartments in this building and has four votes.

The municipality can participate in financing the restoration of the building in proportion to its share of ownership, just like the other apartment owners.

After the demolition and reinforcement work, which may take several weeks, police representatives will first arrive at the building to carry out the necessary procedural actions as part of the explosion investigation.

Then residents will be given the opportunity to enter their apartments and retrieve personal belongings, the municipality explained.

After this, it will be possible to carry out the conservation of the building and develop a restoration project. The building can only be used after obtaining the appropriate conclusion from the Department of Urban Development.

As reported by bb.lv, the explosion in the five-story residential building occurred due to a damaged gas pipeline. As a result, the upper floors of the building and the roof collapsed, residents were evacuated, several people were injured, and two died.
