Prisoners in a high-security prison on the outskirts of Stockholm are on strike due to a lack of food. After riots, they were locked in their cells and have remained there since.

During the time when lunch was supposed to be served, inmates in one of the units of the high-security prison "Hall" declared a hunger strike. According to prison management, the inmates blocked staff and did not allow food to be distributed. Riots ensued. As a result, the inmates were locked in their cells.

The strike continued for several days. According to the head of the facility, Johan Molinder, his charges are refusing lunch and dinner. However, they are not deprived of access to food in the common area. It is presumed that they smuggled bread and other products into their cells. But the message from the inmates is clear - they want larger portions of food.

Dissatisfaction with the food supply in this prison has been known for a long time. Last autumn, one inmate complained to the parliamentary ombudsman that the portions were too small and lacked nutrients. Moreover, the portion sizes could vary significantly among different inmates.

"The portion sizes among us inmates varied greatly - from 190 grams per serving to 461 grams. We go hungry and demand change," the complaint stated.

Earlier, a relative of an inmate in "Hall" stated in an interview that his loved one had lost a lot of weight in prison and expressed great concern about the situation. "I saw him lose weight, and it made me incredibly sad," he said.

Johan Molinder rejects the claim that inmates receive too little food, citing that the facility follows official norms and recommendations.
