On Wednesday, entry to Latvia was denied to five foreigners, the State Border Guard (SBG) reported to the LETA agency.
At the Terekhovo border control point, entry was denied to two citizens of Belarus and one citizen of Ukraine, as they did not have valid visas and residence permits. At the Riga Airport border control point, entry was prohibited for a citizen of Tajikistan, who is subject to a ban on entry and stay in the Schengen Area.
At the Grebnevo border control point, entry was denied to another citizen of Belarus for security reasons.
All individuals were returned to their countries of departure.
Additionally, at the Terekhovo, Paternieki border control points and Riga Airport, two citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Russia were identified as violating the conditions of stay in the Schengen Area. All of them were held administratively accountable.
At Riga Airport, a citizen of Latvia traveling to the United Kingdom was also detained, as his travel document was found to be invalid for entry into that country. He was denied exit from Latvia.
During immigration control activities within the country, violations of entry or stay rules were identified for one citizen of Russia, one citizen of Lithuania, one citizen of Gambia, and one citizen of Somalia.
Furthermore, for violations in the operation of transport and watercraft, border guards held 14 individuals administratively accountable or prohibited them from crossing the border: six citizens of Belarus, two from Latvia, two from Kazakhstan, and one each from Romania, Serbia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Also, at the Terekhovo border control point, a citizen of Uzbekistan was identified leaving Latvia in a truck with a trailer, who presented border guards with a fake technical inspection of the Uzbek trailer. He was held administratively accountable.
On January 21, no attempts of illegal crossing of the Latvian-Belarusian border were recorded.
