On Thursday, for security reasons, six foreign nationals were denied entry to Latvia, the State Border Guard (SBG) reported to the LETA agency.
At the border control points of Terehovo, Grebnevo, and Paternieki, entry into the country was denied to three citizens of Moldova, one citizen of Germany, one citizen of Russia, and one citizen of Belarus. All individuals were returned to the countries from which they came.
In the first eight days of January, no attempts of illegal crossing of the Latvian-Belarusian border were recorded.
The government has extended the enhanced border security regime in the border areas with Belarus until June 30 of this year. This measure was introduced due to the increased flow of illegal migrants organized from the side of Belarus. The enhanced regime is in effect in Ludza and the parishes of Ludza County, in Kraslava and the parishes of the county, in Augšdaugava County, in Daugavpils, and in the parish of Kaunatas in Rezekne County.
