In the first six days of January, there were no attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian-Latvian border.

The government has extended the enhanced border security regime in the border area with Belarus until June 30 of this year. It was introduced due to the increased flow of illegal migrants created by Belarus. The enhanced control regime is established in Ludza and the parishes of Ludza municipality, in Kraslava and the parishes of Kraslava municipality, in Augšdaugava municipality, Daugavpils, and in the parish of Kaunatas in the Rezekne municipality.
