On Monday evening, traffic on the Rezekne-Gulbene road was blocked due to a tragic collision involving two trucks and one passenger car, according to information published by VSIA "Latvijas valsts ceļi."
The road traffic accident occurred at the 56th kilometer, at the turn to Rugāji. Traffic at the accident site is completely blocked.
The State Police received a call in the Lazdukalne parish of Balvi County at 18:30. According to preliminary information, a truck was parked on the side of the road without its lights on, including without hazard lights, and it was hit by another truck. After that, the driver of a Nissan Juke car crashed into the second damaged truck and died.
The passenger of the car and the driver of the second truck were also injured in the accident. The exact circumstances of the incident will be determined by the police during the investigation.
Detours around the accident site are possible via Tilža using the Balvi-Kapune, Karsava-Tilža-Dublukalns, and Rezekne-Karsava roads.
