The oligarch is under European Union sanctions, which prevents him from transferring funds to pay.
In the Finnish city of Hanko, the Vita Villa owned by Russian billionaire Boris Rotenberg has been seized. The property of the 68-year-old businessman, brother of Arkady Rotenberg, was confiscated due to unpaid property taxes amounting to several thousand euros, reports Yle.

Boris Rotenberg is under European Union sanctions, which prevents him from transferring funds to pay taxes to his Finnish accounts. As noted by the source, the billionaire's assets were confiscated back in 2022, which prevents him from doing anything with both his accounts and real estate — they remain frozen and cannot be transferred, mortgaged, or destroyed.
Rotenberg's legal representatives stated that they plan to reclaim the villa and that this matter is "under consideration." Previously, a commercial property owned by the billionaire's company in Helsinki was also seized due to utility debts of 27,000 euros. According to the businessman’s representative, Finnish lawyer Mikko Mantere, the seizure was lifted after the debt was paid, but the authorities managed to sell one of the properties at auction.
Boris Rotenberg is a Russian billionaire, vice president of the Russian Judo Federation, and the younger brother of Arkady Rotenberg, who is considered a close friend of Vladimir Putin. In the 1990s, Boris lived in Finland with his first wife, Irina Kharanen, but returned to St. Petersburg in 1998.
He has two sons from his marriage: Roman and Boris. Since 2009, he has been married to Karina Rotenberg, and they have three children. In 2001, together with his brother, Boris Rotenberg founded "SMP Bank," but he has since sold his stake. Since 2022, Boris Rotenberg has been under sanctions from the European Union, Canada, Australia (since 2020), New Zealand, Japan, and the United Kingdom. As of today, according to Forbes, Boris Rotenberg's net worth is estimated at $1.3 billion.
