On Sunday, for security reasons, the State Border Guard prohibited entry into Latvia for one citizen of Germany and one citizen of Ukraine, the State Border Guard reported to the LETA agency.
On Sunday, as on Saturday, no attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border were detected.
In total, this year, 12,025 attempts to illegally cross the border have been prevented. For humanitarian reasons, Latvia has accepted 31 illegal migrant.
Last year, 5,388 attempts to illegally cross the border were prevented, and 26 individuals were allowed to remain in Latvia.
As reported, due to the ongoing flow of illegal migrants from Belarus, the government has extended the enhanced control regime at the Latvian-Belarusian border until December 31 of this year.
The Ministry of the Interior has proposed to extend this regime until June 30, 2026.
