Today at 13:00, the Riga City Court will continue the hearing of the case regarding the collection of secret information in favor of Russia, in which Svetlana Nikolaeva and also taxi driver Sergey Sidorov, who is involved in another case, are accused, reports LETA citing the court.
Sidorov and Nikolaeva have been charged with collecting undisclosed information in the interests of Russia.
Nikolaeva is the mother of Alexander Dubyago. On May 10, 2022, Dubyago walked with a Russian flag near the Victory Monument in Pardaugava. Following these actions, a criminal case was initiated against him, and he was under arrest for some time; however, later the State Security Service (SSS) terminated the case.
Previously, the SSS reported that criminal proceedings against these individuals were initiated on May 2, 2024. Procedural actions have been carried out at several locations in Riga and its surroundings.
According to data obtained by the SSS during the investigation, the accused illegally collected and transmitted undisclosed information about other individuals suspected of espionage in Latvia and currently under arrest to Russia.
In October of last year, the Riga City Court found Sidorov guilty of espionage in favor of Russia in another criminal case and sentenced him to seven years in prison, followed by two years of probation supervision. This sentence was appealed.
Initially, Sidorov was under arrest, but later the court lifted this preventive measure; however, subsequently, Sidorov and Nikolaeva were detained again.
