The investigation examines the connections of the top leadership of the state.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, who previously headed the Ministry of Defense, rejected any influence from other individuals on him.
Thus, Umerov commented on the statement made by the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office that businessman Timur Mindich could have had influence over the then Minister of Defense.
"Any attempts to link my work in the Ministry of Defense with the 'influence' of certain individuals are unfounded," emphasized the Secretary of the NSDC.
According to Umerov, during his tenure as minister, he regularly met with manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and weapons, lobbyists, etc.
"In particular, there was a meeting with Timur Mindich, during which the issue of bulletproof vests under the contract was raised. As a result, the contract was terminated due to the product not meeting the requirements, and no product was delivered," noted the former Minister of Defense.
The Secretary of the NSDC stated that he is "always ready to provide relevant information and explanations to the media representatives."
According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), businessman Timur Mindich, who is a key figure in the investigation of a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector, likely had influence over Umerov, who previously held the position of Minister of Defense.
It is known that Umerov is currently in Turkey. The Secretary of the NSDC will work in Turkey and the Middle East to unblock the process of prisoner exchanges.
MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that suspects in corruption, including Timur Mindich, were spotted in one of the European countries. Mindich himself left Ukraine before the NABU raids.
