The Riga Regional Prosecutor's Office has submitted a case to the court regarding illegal waste management, resulting in damage to the state amounting to 1.85 million euros, the prosecutor's office informed the LETA agency.
Two men are charged in a criminal case — a member of the company's board and its authorized representative — for violating waste management regulations, causing significant harm.
Considering that the criminal act was committed in the interests of a legal entity, a process has also been initiated for the application of coercive measures against the company.
The company did not have permission to carry out polluting activities of category B and did not have the right to perform any actions related to waste management. Despite this, from March 14, 2018, to May 31, 2022, 3,648 tons of food waste were illegally buried on the company's premises.
Thus, the state suffered property damage amounting to 1.85 million euros, and harm was caused to the environment, creating increased risks of soil and groundwater contamination, the prosecutor's office stated.
The case has been transferred to the Riga District Court.
