The UK Ministry of Justice has acknowledged that more than 90 convicted criminals were mistakenly released from correctional facilities from April to the end of October 2025.
According to the latest data from the UK Ministry of Justice, from April 1 to the end of October this year, 91 people were mistakenly released from British prisons, reports SkyNews.
Justice Minister David Lammy, in communication with Members of Parliament, acknowledged that the release procedure "requires radical overhaul."
He also confirmed that three of the mistakenly released individuals have not yet been found. Two were released in August and December 2024, and one in June 2025, one of whom is a foreign national. Additionally, it is clarified that another probable case of wrongful release occurred on November 3.
There are also conscientious inmates. For instance, a 35-year-old William Smith, sentenced to 45 months in prison for multiple fraud offenses, voluntarily returned to Wandsworth prison in southwest London after his mistaken release.
