A nighttime call from a resident of Kundziņsala to the fire department may have saved her neighbor's life. A fire occurred in the elderly woman's residence – rescuers carried her out of the apartment in serious condition, but medics managed to resuscitate her, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
A resident of Kundziņsala, Galina, woke up in the middle of the night. Outside, the sirens of emergency services could be heard, and smoke was coming from the stairwell.
"I went outside – there was smoke everywhere. I woke up from the noise because there were many services," said resident Galina.
That night, household items caught fire in a neighbor's apartment – Galina and two other residents ran out of the building themselves, while three others were evacuated by rescuers. Firefighters reached the doors of the burning apartment, broke them down, and in the thick smoke found an 84-year-old woman.
Rescuers carried the owner of the burning residence out – she had already experienced clinical death. However, the medics did not give up, and thanks to successful resuscitation, the woman is now recovering in the hospital.
According to residents, the elderly woman inherited her apartment from her mother and has lived here for almost 15 years. She is a kind and polite neighbor, often visited by her daughter: "My daughter came yesterday and did something. I don’t know what happened to her. She lived alone. Maybe she fell asleep."
Talking to the residents of the building, it becomes clear that this is not the first fire in the elderly woman's apartment: "There was one a long time ago, but then it was due to the chimneys."
According to unofficial information, this time the cause could have been a short circuit, however, what actually happened will be determined by the State Police.
The State Police has initiated a criminal process and will investigate the causes of the fire, but initial information does not indicate the commission of a crime.
