Last week, on October 23, officials from the State Border Guard detained a stateless person in the Kraslava region who was transporting individuals who had illegally crossed the state border.
The incident occurred last Thursday: border guards stopped a Renault Megane Scenic taxi, equipped with a yellow taxi number and an identification sign on the roof, in the Svariņi parish. Inside the vehicle were four passengers of Asian descent who did not have valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits in Latvia.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the driver under part 2 of Article 285.1 of the Criminal Law of Latvia — for assisting the illegal stay of two or more persons in the territory of the country.
