In early October, employees of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police, acting on operational information, conducted sanctioned searches in Daugavpils as part of two previously initiated criminal cases. Two men and one woman were detained on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing in the initiated criminal cases, the State Police reported.
On October 2, employees of the Investigation Department of the Southern Latgale Division of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police recorded how a man born in 1988 purchased drugs from a woman of the same birth year during operational activities in Daugavpils. During a sanctioned search at the woman's residence, 122 Subutex tablets containing psychotropic substances and 11 tablets of unknown origin were seized. Expert examinations have been appointed to determine the exact composition of the seized substances.
Both individuals were detained at the moment of committing the crime. The State Police initiated two criminal proceedings: one under the first part of Article 253 of the Criminal Law, and the second under the second part of Article 253.1, that is, for the same actions committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement. This is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to ten years with confiscation of property or without it, as well as with probation supervision for up to three years.
On September 29 of this year, within the framework of a previously initiated criminal case, employees of the Department for Combating Organized Crime and Serious and Serial Crimes of the Criminal Management of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police, acting on operational information, detained a man born in 1992. During a sanctioned search, 600 grams of amphetamine and 50 grams of methamphetamine were found and seized from him.
A criminal case has been initiated against the man under the first part of Article 253 of the Criminal Law for the illegal manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or mailing of narcotic or psychotropic substances without the intent to sell. This is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years, short-term imprisonment, probation supervision, community service, or a monetary fine.
Employees of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police will continue their active and targeted work to combat the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, as before.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt in committing a crime is proven in the manner prescribed by law.
