Dramatic events have occurred more than once in the two-story house on Rojas Street in Jelgava. Last weekend, a man nearly lost his life. However, luck was on his side — he managed to leave the smoke-filled apartment before losing consciousness, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

Maris fell asleep while watching a movie, and it was at that moment that thick black smoke began to fill the apartment. As he recounts, it was only due to a fortunate coincidence that he managed to wake up and save his life: "I couldn't get out, I climbed through the window. I don't remember anything. I don't even remember who called the firefighters. I don't remember if there was any flame. I woke up from the smoke."

Maris regrets the recently purchased washing machine, which melted and is now unusable. Due to the high temperature, the light bulb on the ceiling also melted. The man suspects that the fire likely started due to a short circuit. However, he is not yet sure if it happened behind the refrigerator or at the front door: "The wires are exposed, the house is old. I warned that it could catch fire, but the local government doesn't care."

Currently, for safety reasons, electricity and water supply have been turned off in the apartment. In the coming days, local government officials will arrive to figure out how to resolve the situation.
