The state enterprise Russian Railways (RZD) was unable to sell the Riga Railway Station in Moscow due to a lack of bidders.
By the time the deadline for submitting documents for the auction expired, not a single application had been received.
The starting price of the lot was about 45 million euros. A plot of land measuring over 13,500 square meters and several buildings were put up for sale.
However, Russian Railways (RZD) is not giving up. A repeated auction for the sale of the Riga Railway Station buildings in Moscow is scheduled for June 10, according to a statement from Russian Railways.
It is noteworthy that the situation with the Riga Railway Station in Moscow suspiciously resembles the problems of the House of Moscow in Riga. It was confiscated by the Latvian state in January 2024. The plan was to sell the building at auction and send the proceeds to Ukraine. However, eight auctions have already taken place, the price has been reduced from 3.57 million euros to 2.142 million euros, yet no buyer has come forward for the auction.
As for the Riga Railway Station, it was opened in 1901. Designed in the neo-Russian style, it was originally named Vindava Station after the Latvian city of Vindava (now Ventspils), which was connected to Moscow by railway.
In 1930, the station was renamed Baltic, in 1942 it became Rzhevsky, and since 1946 it has had its current name: Riga.
