Oil Prices Surge Sharply

Oil prices in the global market surged sharply on Thursday amid new attacks on energy facilities in the Middle East, raising concerns that prolonged hostilities would cause long-term damage to oil and gas infrastructure, LETA reported citing DPA/AFP.

The price of Brent crude oil has risen by more than 10% — to $119.13 per barrel, while the price of WTI crude oil increased by 2.6% — to $98.81 per barrel.

Fires broke out after drone attacks on Thursday at two oil refineries owned by the national oil company of Kuwait.

Earlier the same day, a drone struck another refinery of the company — Mina Al Ahmadi, causing a small fire.

Meanwhile, the Qatari energy company QatarEnergy reported on Thursday that Iranian strikes on Wednesday evening caused significant damage to the world's largest gas industry hub in Qatar, leading to a sharp increase in natural gas prices.
