The banking sector of Latvia operated with a profit of 379.634 million euros last year, which is 33.3% less than in 2024, according to data from the Bank of Latvia, reports LETA.
The interest income of banks in 2025 amounted to 1.282 billion euros, which is 17.2% less than in 2024, while interest expenses decreased by 21.1% — to 338.367 million euros.
The commission income of banks last year amounted to 371.328 million euros, which is 4.6% more than in 2024, while commission expenses increased by 9% — to 117.04 million euros.
At the end of 2025, the assets of the banking sector amounted to 32.575 billion euros, which is 6.8% or 2.084 billion euros more than a year earlier, when assets were 30.491 billion euros.
The volume of loans issued to non-bank clients at the end of last year reached 18.79 billion euros, which is 12.8% or 2.129 billion euros more than at the end of 2024.
In particular, the volume of loans issued to domestic clients at the end of 2025 amounted to 15.552 billion euros, increasing by 12% or 1.669 billion euros compared to the end of 2024.
The volume of loans issued to domestic households at the end of last year amounted to 7.363 billion euros, which is 11.2% or 742.458 million euros more, while the volume of loans to domestic non-financial enterprises amounted to 7.656 billion euros, increasing by 13.5% or 907.835 million euros. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises were issued 4.742 billion euros, which is 15.2% or 625.914 million euros more than a year earlier.
The volume of deposits attracted by banks as of December 31, 2025, amounted to 27.638 billion euros, which is 8.1% or 2.079 billion euros more than at the end of 2024.
In particular, the volume of deposits from domestic clients increased by 7.9% or 1.654 billion euros — to 22.716 billion euros.
Deposits from domestic households grew by 8.2% or 918.923 million euros and as of December 31, 2025, amounted to 12.123 billion euros, while deposits from domestic non-financial enterprises increased by 7.2% or 566.222 million euros — to 8.466 billion euros.
Data from the Bank of Latvia also shows that the share of the five largest banks by assets at the end of last year was 87.16% (at the end of 2024 — 88.28%), by loans to non-bank clients — 86.25% (87.46%), and by deposits from non-bank clients — 88.42% (88.64%).
In 2024, the total profit of the banking sector amounted to 569.533 million euros.
