The head of the Latvian Logistics Association expressed a forecast.
The head of the Latvian Logistics Association, Normunds Krūmiņš, reminded during a discussion on TV-24 that transporting one unit of cargo brings 13-15 euros to the treasury. Last year, 9.2 million tons of cargo passed through Latvia, meaning that over 100 million euros entered the budget.
Despite the decline in cargo flow, the transit sector can still significantly "revive." As N. Krūmiņš pointed out, a couple of weeks ago, Donald Trump hosted the presidents of all Central Asian countries at the White House - an agreement was reached for these countries to supply rare earth metals to the USA.
"If we are talking about millions of tons, there are only two options for transportation - either Russian ports or the ports of the Baltic states. And this is where our politicians need to work - to attract cargo for the USA specifically to Latvian ports!" said N. Krūmiņš.
