airBaltic finally reached profitability: is it time to sell?

The government-controlled airline airBaltic reported a profit of 4.249 million euros for the first nine months of this year. In comparison, during the same period in 2024, it recorded a loss of 48.503 million euros.

The revenue of the airBaltic group for the first nine months of 2025 increased by 3.3% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 594.303 million euros.

During this period, the airline transported 3.9 million passengers, which is 1.7% more than a year earlier.

The total number of flights operated, including full aircraft charter services (ACMI), reached 60,300, which is 5.9% more than in the first nine months of 2024. Of these, 36,300 flights were operated in the airline's route network (+2.4%), while 24,000 were under ACMI (+11.7%).

The average seat occupancy rate was 80.5%, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than a year ago.

As previously reported, in 2024, the consolidated loss of the airBaltic group amounted to 118.159 million euros.

At the end of August 2025, the German airline Lufthansa became a shareholder of airBaltic. Currently, 88.37% of the shares are owned by the state of Latvia, 10% by Lufthansa, 1.62% by a certain Danish investor, and 0.01% by other minor investors.

The Latvian government decided on August 30, 2024, to divest its shares by listing them on the stock exchange. However, the date of the sale has not yet been announced.
