Currently, the waiting time for goods has increased to several months.
Thousands of Russian traders have lost their goods due to a traffic jam at the Kazakhstan border. More than 10,000 trucks have been stuck in inspection for the second month.
Trucks carrying goods worth hundreds of millions of dollars are stranded in Kazakhstan, through which goods are transported to Russia from China, Turkey, and Kyrgyzstan. Problems began in the first days of September, and the situation remains unchanged. According to information from "Baza", the main reason for the traffic collapse is intensified customs checks to combat gray imports. Trucks have been halted due to inspections for compliance with declarations: for example, the actual cargo of the truck is winter jackets, while the export documents and duties are declared for auto parts. Carriers report that goods that do not match the documents are sent back to temporary storage warehouses. The cargo can only be retrieved if there are declarations and labeling. As a result, sellers and buyers have already lost seasonal supplies. For instance, one seller complained about a delay in Halloween decorations, which are celebrated at the end of October.
In conversations with us, Russian sellers reported that absolutely different types of cargo are stuck: personal items, cars, perishable goods, and even those that were supposed to go through "express delivery". Previously, the transportation time ranged from a couple of days to two weeks, but now the waiting time has increased to several months. Entrepreneurs predict a rise in logistics and goods prices by at least two times in the near future. According to sellers, small cargo companies are facing closure. Many sellers will also be forced to switch to white supplies, where goods must have certification and be imported officially, unlike cargo. Currently, logistics companies are redirecting their supplies through Ussuriysk and Belarus.
Importers have also informed us about the emergence of "helpers". Resourceful individuals offer to expedite the border crossing process for a fee ranging from $300 to $1,000. Prices for containers vary, depending on the goods, they can reach up to 10% of their purchase cost. The main reason for the traffic collapse is intensified customs checks to combat gray imports.
