The American e-commerce company Amazon is preparing to eliminate up to 30,000 office jobs, reports the Wall Street Journal, according to LETA citing DPA.
Sources from the publication indicate that these plans are related to efforts to reduce costs and the workforce, which sharply increased during the coronavirus pandemic as consumers increasingly shifted to online shopping.
It is expected that the cuts will affect nearly 10% of the company's approximately 350,000 office employees.
Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy has already warned employees that some jobs may be replaced by artificial intelligence. In June, he stated that the growing use of generative AI and AI agents in the coming years would lead to a reduction in the company's workforce.
Overall, Amazon employs more than 1.5 million people worldwide, most of whom work in the company's warehouses.
