The Latvian airline airBaltic will lease crewed aircraft to the national carrier of Serbia, Air Serbia, according to an agreement signed between the two airlines.
According to information provided by Air Serbia, starting from November 1 of this year, the airline airBaltic will operate flights on behalf of Air Serbia, using Canadian Airbus A220-300 aircraft designed for 148 passengers.
In the upcoming winter season, Air Serbia will use two airBaltic aircraft, and in the summer season of next year, the number of leased aircraft will increase to four, Air Serbia specified. The duration of the contract is two years.
In 2024, the airBaltic group recorded audited losses of 118.159 million euros compared to profits the previous year.
At the end of August 2024, the German national airline Lufthansa became a shareholder of airBaltic. Currently, the state of Latvia owns 88.37% of the shares, Lufthansa holds 10%, a certain financial investor owns 1.62%, and 0.01% belongs to other owners.
On August 30, 2024, the Latvian government agreed to sell the airline, but the sale has been continually postponed.
