In September, annual inflation in Latvia was higher than the average in the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data from the EU statistical office "Eurostat."
Annual inflation in Latvia in September was 4.2%. The lowest inflation last month was recorded in France at 1.1%, in Greece and Italy it was 1.8%, in Portugal - 1.9%, in the Czech Republic - 2%, while in Cyprus consumer prices remained unchanged over the year.
The highest annual inflation was in Romania at 8.6%. In Estonia, it was 5.3%, in Slovakia and Croatia - 4.6%, in Hungary - 4.3%. In Lithuania, prices increased by 3.7% over the year.
On average in the EU, annual inflation in September was 2.6%, in the eurozone - 2.2%.
Compared to August, consumer prices in September increased by 0.1% in both the EU and the eurozone.
In Latvia, inflation in September compared to August also amounted to 0.1%. Monthly inflation was recorded in 12 EU countries, with the highest in Italy (+1.3%). The largest monthly deflation was in Malta (-1.3%), while in Austria and Slovenia consumer prices remained unchanged over the month. In Lithuania, prices increased by 0.4%, while in Estonia, as in France, they decreased by 1.1%.
"Eurostat" calculates inflation according to the harmonized index of consumer prices of the EU (HICP).
