In the international competition for the management of the commercial spaces of the passenger terminal at Riga Airport, 12 candidates have qualified for the second stage, reports the LETA agency, citing information obtained from the airport.
The airport explained that in the first stage of the competition, candidates were not required to submit financial proposals.
In the second stage, qualified participants must submit final proposals, including preliminary cost estimates, by January 15, 2026.
A total of 14 companies participated in the first stage of the competition, including those from Latvia, Ireland, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, and other countries.
As previously reported, the competition conditions provide for the division of the airport's commercial spaces into four lots: duty-free shops, retail stores, food service points, and business lounge services.
Initially selected operator(s) will manage the existing commercial spaces, but after the expansion of the airport's passenger terminal is completed, they will be able to continue operations in new premises for another ten years.
The results of the competition are expected to be announced in early 2026, and the new operator(s) must start work on January 1, 2027 — at which point the concession agreement with the current operator of the commercial spaces at Riga Airport, LLC "TAV Latvia," will expire.
The airport notes that the procurement is conducted to ensure a modern experience for passengers and to stimulate the growth of non-aeronautical revenues in both existing and future expanded terminal spaces.
According to information on the Riga Airport website, the operator of the commercial spaces in the terminal since 2011 has been the company "TAV Latvia."
