The administration of the Heidebad resort complex on the shores of Lake Heidesee in the German city of Halle (Saxony-Anhalt) has introduced a rule that visitors with insufficient German language skills may be denied access to the beach.

The complex manager, Mathias Nobel, explained the decision as necessary for ensuring the safety of visitors. Staff must be sure that guests understand the rules of behavior in the water and the instructions of lifeguards. According to him, the reason for this was a recent incident when he, in the role of a lifeguard, had to pull a child from deep water. Since the introduction of the restriction, several visitors have already been denied entry.

"We must be sure that visitors understand our swimming rules and consistently ensure the safety of all guests," Nobel was quoted by the DPA agency. The decision is made on a case-by-case basis when language difficulties arise at the entrance. The management of the complex does not plan to cancel the rule despite the criticism.

The news has spread widely in German and international media, sparking a discussion about the balance between safety and potential discrimination. Representatives of the complex emphasize that the restriction concerns understanding safety instructions, not the origin of the visitors.
