U.S. military officials reported the completion of a series of strikes on targets in Iran, which were carried out in response to the destruction of an Apache helicopter off the coast of Oman. Tehran has already stated that the attack will not go unanswered.
The U.S. has completed a military operation against targets in Iran, initiated by the order of President Donald Trump. This was reported by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for operations in the Middle East.
According to the American side, the strikes were carried out in self-defense after the destruction of an American Apache helicopter, for which Washington holds Iran responsible.
CENTCOM reported that the operation targeted air defense systems, ground control points, and radar surveillance systems in the Strait of Hormuz area. Precision weapons were used for the strikes, launched from U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft.
Shortly before the operation began, Donald Trump warned that the response to the destruction of the helicopter would be "very tough" and "very powerful." American military officials described their actions as a proportional response to what they characterized as unprovoked aggression from Iran.
The situation is drawing particular attention due to the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz. A significant portion of the world's oil supplies passes through this maritime corridor, so any military escalation in the region is closely monitored by financial markets and governments of many countries.
Shortly after the strikes began, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is ready to respond to U.S. actions. According to him, the country's armed forces will not leave any attack or threat unanswered. He also urged external forces to leave the region if they want to avoid further escalation.
Iranian media reported explosions in several areas of the country, including the city of Sirik, Qeshm Island, and the vicinity of Bandar Abbas. According to the Tasnim agency, as a result of the strikes in the Sirik district, two water storage tanks were damaged, leading to a disruption in drinking water supply.
So far, there is no information on possible casualties or the scale of destruction.
Despite the U.S. statement about the completion of the operation, Tehran's strong reaction indicates that tensions in the region remain high and the further development of events will depend on the next steps from both sides.
