Cuban authorities have urged the population to prepare for a possible foreign invasion.

The Cuban government has begun distributing weapons among citizens in case of foreign invasion, claims the Venezuelan newspaper Versión Final. Major Western outlets report preparations for emergencies. All of this is against the backdrop of increasing American military presence near the island.

Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not specify what measures—military or otherwise—Washington might apply regarding Cuba during hearings in Congress. President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that after Iran, he will focus on Cuba, RTVI US reminds.

CNN correspondent Patrick Oppmann told Bloomberg that in Cuba, managers of government buildings are going door-to-door to residents to clarify issues related to actions in case of an invasion—such as asking people if they will need access to offices in an emergency. What is happening, the journalist claims, is causing deep anxiety among the people.

"Among the population, the general mood fluctuates between anxiety and exhaustion... some Cubans admit that in the stifling conditions of the crisis, they just want it to be over once and for all," the article also states.
