A marine drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanța on the morning of June 5. Authorities have raised the response level and cordoned off the area of the incident. According to preliminary assessments by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, the device may belong to the type of drones used in the war in Ukraine.
On Friday, June 5, a marine drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanța. This was reported by Digi24 citing official sources.
The incident occurred around 10:30 in the area of docks 77–78. Nearby are the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for Maritime Human Life Saving (ARSVOM) and the Oil Terminal.
Following the explosion, a "red" response plan was implemented in the city, and the area around the incident site was cordoned off.
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense stated that the discovered object corresponds to the types of marine drones used during the war in Ukraine. Preliminary data suggests that the device self-destructed.
"The area is cordoned off by the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Coast Guard, and the Ministry of National Defense," the agency noted.
According to Digi24, the drone may have contained dozens of kilograms of explosive material. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the local prosecutor's office.
Prime Minister of Romania Eugen Tomac and President of the country Nicușor Dan have been informed about the incident.
