I have no explanation for why Kaja Kallas (Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs) made a statement that all European Union diplomats are staying in place,” said Colonel of the Latvian Army Reserve and Saeima Deputy Igor Raievs on the TV24 program "On the War in Ukraine with Igor Raievs."
Raievs reminded of a message from Russia, which claimed that an attack on Kyiv was being prepared and that all diplomats should leave the city as soon as possible. According to him, he does not understand why this unverified information was decided to be voiced as an official statement.
He also noted that the relationship between the EU and the US cannot be called good at the moment. In Raievs’ opinion, the fact that Kaja Kallas has not yet been able to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio only emphasizes the growing distance between Europe and the United States and does not contribute to improving relations.
According to Raievs, before making such statements, the information about American diplomats leaving Kyiv should have been verified and at least the US State Department should have been contacted to clarify the position and plans of the American side. Furthermore, he doubts that the US State Department makes decisions based on Kallas’ statements.
