As reported by Estonian media, Estonia's Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur visited the Ida-Viru County region to discuss the construction of a military camp with the leadership of Narva.
At a meeting with the leadership of Narva, an agreement was reached that the city authorities would support further steps towards the establishment of a military camp as early as June. This will create the necessary prerequisites for announcing a state tender for construction and will allow for the erection of an initial complex of containers to ensure a presence in Narva in the shortest possible time.
"The construction of a military camp in Narva is a strategic decision in defense policy, which, in addition to strengthening military defense, also enhances the state's presence in the border city," emphasized Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur. "Increasing the presence in Narva is important, as Estonia takes the protection of its territory seriously from the very first meter. The constant presence of the Defense Forces strengthens security and instills a sense of confidence in the local residents. I am confident that the camp will attract active people to Narva and its surroundings and invigorate the economy."
Let us remind you that Narva is predominantly inhabited by Russian-speaking residents, and the city is often mentioned as a potential target for possible Russian aggression.
