Congressmen Demand Limiting Trump's Authority to Use Force Against Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives supported limiting Trump's military powers regarding Iran

The House of Representatives of the United States Congress has passed a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump's military powers regarding Iran.

As noted by CNN, this decision is one of the most significant expressions of lawmakers' disagreement with the White House's approach to resolving the conflict surrounding the Islamic Republic.

In recent weeks, the initiative from the Democrats has received support not only from members of their party but also from some Republicans. Similar attempts have been made repeatedly in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The document adopted by the lower chamber of Congress is a joint resolution. For further advancement, it must receive approval from both chambers of the legislative body; however, such a document is not sent for the president's signature.

As a result of the voting, the resolution was supported by 215 congressmen, while 208 voted against it. Notably, four Republicans voted alongside the Democrats.

Among them were Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson, who supported the initiative to limit the president's right to use military force without additional approval from Congress.

Previously, the U.S. Senate had considered similar initiatives, but they did not garner the necessary number of votes. In particular, in March, the upper chamber rejected a resolution that would have prohibited the president from using additional military measures against Iran without Congress's consent.

The decision of the House of Representatives reflects ongoing disagreements within the American political establishment regarding the president's powers in military operations. Despite the resolution's support in the lower chamber, its future remains uncertain, as similar initiatives have previously failed to gain support in the Senate.
