U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Ukraine's ability to conduct increasingly distant strikes on Russian territory raises the risk of further escalation of the war. Meanwhile, Washington continues to support Kyiv and acknowledges the lack of progress in peace negotiations.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned of the growing risk of further escalation of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Speaking in the U.S. Senate, the head of American diplomacy noted that Ukrainian forces are increasingly successfully conducting long-range strikes on targets within Russian territory. According to him, this makes the situation more dangerous and increases the likelihood of new phases of escalation in the conflict.

"The risk of escalation is real and it is now higher than it was two years ago," Rubio stated.

At the same time, he emphasized that such events are yet another argument in favor of seeking ways to end the war.

The topic of a possible settlement was also discussed during Rubio's speech at the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Secretary of State acknowledged that attempts to achieve progress towards peace have not yet yielded noticeable results. In his assessment, neither side of the conflict has demonstrated readiness for serious concessions, without which a peace agreement is impossible.

Rubio was particularly harsh in his comments on Moscow's position, noting that it is the Russian side that has yet to show a willingness to compromise.

At the same time, the head of the State Department rejected the notion that the U.S. is acting as a neutral mediator. He reminded that Washington continues to supply weapons to Ukraine and maintains sanctions against Russia.

"We do not supply weapons to Russia. We only supply weapons to Ukraine," Rubio emphasized.

For understanding the current position of the U.S., another statement from the Secretary of State is important. Despite discussions of a possible peace process, Washington is not signaling a reduction in military support for Kyiv. On the contrary, the U.S. continues to participate in the PURL program, through which weapons for Ukraine are purchased with funding from European allies.

Rubio's statements came against the backdrop of intensified Ukrainian strikes on targets deep within Russian territory and ongoing hostilities, which remain the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

While diplomatic efforts have not led to a breakthrough, statements from Washington indicate that the American administration is simultaneously trying to support Ukraine and prevent further escalation of the conflict.
