Donald Trump doubts that J.D. Vance is a suitable successor — the head of the White House compares the vice president to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and regularly asks his close aides who is better. This was reported by NYT sources close to the president.
According to them, Trump often asks about Vance: “Does he have what it takes to go all the way?” — and usually answers himself that he is not sure about that. Trump does not hide his doubts from Vance and regularly points out his mistakes — reminding him of how he dropped the football trophy, noting how many vacations he has taken, and so on.
The newspaper emphasizes that Vance demonstrates the loyalty that Trump values so much. However, their relationship has been complicated by the conflict with Iran, which the vice president received without enthusiasm.
At the same time, the vice president remains a favorite among Republicans. According to the Pew Research Center, 75% of respondents have a positive view of the vice president, while only 64% view Rubio favorably.
