In the Pakistani city of Quetta, a suicide bomber detonated a passenger train carrying soldiers and their families. According to the latest reports, at least 24 people have died, and around 70 others have been injured. The separatist group "Balochistan Liberation Army" claimed responsibility for the attack.

At least 24 people have died and another 70 have been injured in Pakistan as a result of a suicide bomber attacking a passenger train carrying military personnel.

The attack occurred on Sunday in the city of Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Balochistan. The suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into one of the train cars as it passed a traffic light, The Telegraph reports.

As a result of the powerful explosion, two cars derailed and caught fire. Several nearby buildings and vehicles parked along the railway tracks were also damaged.

The train was transporting Pakistani soldiers and their families. They were heading to the city of Peshawar to celebrate the religious holiday Eid al-Fitr.

The separatist group "Balochistan Liberation Army" claimed responsibility for the attack. In their statement, the militants confirmed that the target of the attack was indeed the country’s security forces.

Local medics reported that dozens of injured individuals have been hospitalized. Several victims are in critical condition.

The attack in Quetta has once again demonstrated the ongoing tension in Balochistan and the high level of threat to Pakistan's security forces. The country's authorities are increasing security measures; however, the situation in the region remains extremely complicated, and the risk of new attacks is still high.

Following the attack, Pakistani authorities launched a large-scale operation to investigate the circumstances of the terrorist act and to search for possible accomplices of the suicide bomber. In light of yet another major attack in Balochistan, experts have once again raised concerns about the rise in terrorist activity in the region and the need to strengthen the protection of the country's transportation infrastructure and military facilities.
