The Son of the Former President of Venezuela Reveals How Maduro Lives in an American Prison

The son of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro stated in an interview with Der Spiegel that his father is no longer in solitary confinement in an American prison. According to Nicolás Maduro Guerra, the former leader has been held with 18 inmates since Easter week, interacts with his cellmates, and has even started learning English.

The son of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, stated in an interview with Der Spiegel that his father, who is in a New York prison after being detained by American military forces in January 2026, has not been in solitary confinement since Easter week, but rather in a general cell with 18 other inmates.

According to Maduro Guerra, about half of the cellmates speak Spanish, and the former Venezuelan leader interacts with them, watches television, and is learning English.

Maduro's son expressed concern about his father's living conditions, stating that he is used to healthy eating, but in prison, he receives "mostly carbohydrates, highly processed food, and too much salt." In the U.S., Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores are facing charges, including drug terrorism; Maduro denies these allegations.

Observers believe that the situation surrounding Nicolás Maduro's detention in the U.S. remains not only a criminal issue but also a politically sensitive one. The former president's family is trying to draw attention to the conditions of his detention, while American authorities continue to investigate the charges against him, which Maduro categorically denies.
