The US and Iran are close to concluding a one-page memorandum of understanding that could end the ongoing military conflict and pave the way for a new round of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program. This was reported by Axios, citing two American officials and sources familiar with the consultations.
According to the publication, the White House expects to receive an official response from Tehran within the next 48 hours. The document reportedly consists of 14 points and is being developed by the US Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Vitkoff, and President's Assistant Jared Kushner in contact with Iranian representatives.
According to the published information, the proposed plan includes ending the war and initiating a 30-day negotiation period during which the parties must agree on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, limitations on Iran's nuclear program, and possible lifting of US sanctions.
According to Axios, Washington is seeking to impose a moratorium on uranium enrichment by Iran for at least 12 years, with the possibility of extension in case of violations.
After the agreed period, Iran may reportedly be allowed to enrich uranium to a level of 3.67%, suitable for civilian purposes. In return, Tehran would have to officially abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons and agree to enhanced international oversight, including surprise inspections by the UN.
