Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated during a visit to Lithuania on Wednesday that after the reduction of American troops in Germany, Poland is ready to accept them, RMF24 reports.
"We have the necessary infrastructure for this," said the Polish president.
He also noted that a significant presence of American troops in Europe serves the security interests of both the Baltic states and Central and Eastern Europe "regardless of views."
"I believe it is the task of the President of Poland, in the interests of Poland, but also in the interests of all of Europe, to convince President Donald Trump that if he makes such a decision regarding the component in Germany, these soldiers should remain in Europe, that is, in Poland or in one of the Baltic states or in another region. But that is already a decision for Mr. President Donald Trump. I will do everything to ensure they stay in Europe," stated Nawrocki.
As reported by bb.lv, the Pentagon confirmed that the U.S. will withdraw about 5,000 troops from Germany. According to the Department of Defense, this is expected to happen within the next 6–12 months.
