The United Arab Emirates reported the resumption of strikes from Tehran - the first time in a month after a ceasefire was reached between the US and Iran. Germany condemned the attacks on the UAE and called on Iranian authorities to return to negotiations.

Iranian drones and missiles have attacked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the first time since the ceasefire between the US and Iran began. The UAE's air defense forces intercepted 19 missiles and UAVs launched from Iran, the country's Ministry of Defense reported on Monday, May 4, on social media platform X. According to the ministry, Iran launched 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones towards the UAE, writes DW.

A fire broke out in the area of the Al-Fujairah oil complex following the strike by the Iranian drone, the emirate's government press service reported. As a result of the attack, three Indian nationals were injured and hospitalized. Classes in UAE schools have been moved online from May 5 to May 8.

Omani Authorities Also Reported Shelling

The UAE authorities strongly condemned the resumption of strikes from Iran and stated their right to retaliate. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the attack a "dangerous escalation" and indicated that the country "reserves the full and legitimate right to respond to these attacks."

At the same time, Iranian state TV, citing a high-ranking military official, stated that Tehran had "no plans" to attack the UAE.

Meanwhile, Omani authorities reported a strike on the city of Bukha, located near the border with the UAE. According to Omani media, a residential building was damaged in this incident, and two expatriate workers were injured.

Trump Accused Iran of Striking a South Korean Vessel

Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that Iran had carried out several strikes, including on a South Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the White House chief, American forces destroyed seven Iranian boats, and that was "all they had left."

The day before, the US announced that as part of Operation "Project Freedom," they would escort vessels stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded that American interference in shipping in the strait would be regarded as a violation of the ceasefire that came into effect on April 8.

Germany Condemned Iran's Strikes on the UAE

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed solidarity with the UAE following Iran's strikes: "The UAE has once again become a target of Iranian drone and missile strikes. We strongly condemn these attacks. We express our solidarity with the people of the UAE and our partners in the region. Tehran must return to the negotiating table and stop holding the region and the entire world hostage."

"The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz must be lifted. Tehran must not develop nuclear weapons. There should be no further threats or attacks on our partners," Merz concluded.
