German Police Officer Punished with a Trip to a Concentration Camp

In the city of Weißwasser, the court ordered a police officer to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial as part of a suspended sentence. The reason was the use of the Nazi slogan "Alles für Deutschland" ("Everything for Germany") on social media, which is banned in Germany.

This is reported by bb.lv, citing Deutsche Welle.

"The accused must reflect deeply and critically on that time, from 1933 to 1945, on-site at the memorial," commented Judge Christoph Pietrka to journalists regarding his decision.

According to the indictment, police commissioner, 52-year-old Thomas P., posted a photo of a bas-relief depicting four workers on his WhatsApp status in May 2024, adding the caption Alles für Deutschland.

This slogan is banned in Germany as it was used by members of the NSDAP's 'stormtroopers.' Its use is now considered a "deliberate reference to the ideology of National Socialism."

The police officer refused to admit his guilt, claimed he is not a "supporter of right-wing extremists," and stated he was unaware of the meaning of the slogan. However, he agreed to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The court's decision emphasizes that even postings on personal accounts can have serious consequences if they touch on the topic of Nazism. The German authorities continue to respond harshly to any manifestations of such symbolism, focusing not only on punishment but also on reflecting on historical responsibility.
