Compared to the results of a survey conducted in January 2026, Ukrainians' trust in security guarantees from both the US and Europe has decreased. This is evidenced by the survey data conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from April 20 to 27 of this year.

It is noted that while at the beginning of this year, 59% of Ukrainians expected that in the event of another attack, Europe would provide the necessary support to repel the attack, this figure has now dropped to 52%.

There has also been an increase in those who do not believe that Europe will provide the necessary support – from 31% to 41%.

However, as noted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), there are still more Ukrainians who believe in security guarantees from Europe.

Notably, in the case of the US, the changes are drastic. If in January there was parity between those who believe and those who do not, now, in April, the majority of Ukrainians do not believe that the US will provide the necessary support.

In particular, the share of those who do not believe in this has increased from 40% to 57%. Additionally, the proportion of those who trust security guarantees from the US has decreased from 39% to 27%.

Sociologists noted that in the case of the US, compared to Europe, there are twice as many people who found it difficult to answer the question – 16% versus 7%.

Other survey data

Earlier, UNIAN reported that according to a KIIS survey, Ukrainians have developed a worse attitude towards Poles but a better one towards ethnic Russians living in Ukraine. In particular, Ukrainians have the best attitude towards Ukrainian-speaking citizens (index 2.4) and Russian-speaking Ukrainians (3.5). This means that the majority of respondents are willing to include representatives of these groups in their close circle – as family members and close friends. It is noted that following them are Jews living in Ukraine, Canadians, and Germans (indices around 3.9). After them are Poles, French, and Americans (indices around 4–4.1).

We also reported that a study on media consumption among Ukrainians indicates that 62% of Ukrainians aged 14 and older communicate in Ukrainian in everyday life, at work, and during studies. That is, 6 out of 10 Ukrainians communicate in Ukrainian in their daily lives. The study was conducted in February-March 2026 by Gradus at the request of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Typically, 62% of respondents communicate in Ukrainian, while 17% use Russian, and another 19% use both Ukrainian and Russian languages equally.
