Bild: Chancellor Merz finds himself at the bottom of the popularity ranking of politicians in Germany for the first time

Shocking data from the INSA survey for Bild shows: Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz (CDU) has, for the first time in his career, hit rock bottom in the popularity ranking among leading politicians in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz (CDU) has, for the first time in his political career, dropped to the last place in the popularity ranking among leading figures in the Federal Republic of Germany. These alarming results became known thanks to a survey conducted by the sociological institute INSA on behalf of the authoritative newspaper Bild.

According to the study's data, Merz made a sharp decline from 18th to 20th place, scoring only 28.9 points. Thus, he officially became the most unpopular politician in the current INSA survey for Bild. Particularly painful for the Chancellor of Germany is the fact that his popularity is declining not only nationwide. Even among his own electorate, supporters of the CDU/CSU bloc, he occupies only the last positions.

Among CDU/CSU voters, Friedrich Merz scores a modest 55.1 points, placing him only in fifth position. Only 10% of respondents rate his performance positively, while a staggering 58% express negative attitudes.

He is significantly outperformed by other prominent representatives of the conservative camp. Among them are CSU leader Markus Söder, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst, and Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt.

Notably, Alexander Dobrindt demonstrated growth, rising from 8th to 6th place. The CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann also joined the ranks of "rising stars," confidently moving from 12th place into the top ten, taking 9th place.

Thus, a rather contradictory picture is emerging for the CDU/CSU bloc. While conservatives as a whole are strengthening their positions, their leader continues to rapidly lose voter support, emphasizes Bild.

The leader of the ranking remains Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), maintaining his high ratings. However, not all politicians have retained their positions.

Co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) Alice Weidel also experienced a decline, losing two positions and moving from 6th to 8th place. A noticeable decrease in popularity is also observed for Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil (SPD), who dropped from 9th to 11th place.

The survey was conducted from April 24 to 27 of this year. A total of 2,010 respondents participated, ensuring the representativeness of the data.
