Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, emphasized Iran's unwavering desire for dominance in the Strait of Hormuz, calling such a position absolutely unacceptable for the United States.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed firm confidence that Iran continues to seek complete control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. He categorically stated that such a situation is absolutely unacceptable for the United States. This statement was made on Monday, April 27, and was covered by Bloomberg and the publication 'European Truth'.
In response to journalists' questions about recent reports regarding Tehran's proposal to 'open' the Strait of Hormuz after the cancellation of negotiations, Rubio was unyielding. He emphasized that the U.S. will not allow Iran to dictate the terms of passage for ships or impose any fees for transit under any circumstances.
"If by opening the strait they mean: 'yes, the strait is open, but only on the condition that you coordinate your actions with Iran, get our permission, otherwise we will blow you up, and you will pay us,' – this is not opening the strait," Rubio stated directly.
It is worth noting that earlier, over the past weekend, Trump announced significant changes in the negotiation process. He stated that American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would not be traveling to Pakistan for scheduled talks with Iran.
Trump also made it clear that Iran has the option to contact the United States directly. This proposal was made in order to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict.
