President Pezeshkian: The Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is a Stumbling Block for Dialogue with the USA

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed deep concern over the apparent discrepancy between the USA's statements about a desire for peace and their actual actions. His position is voiced by Press TV.

Contradictory Policy of Washington

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian once again emphasized the contradiction between the actions of the United States and their public statements about a desire for diplomatic resolution. This was reported by Press TV. In a conversation with the President of Pakistan, the Iranian leader highlighted that Washington continues to increase pressure on Tehran, despite its declared willingness for dialogue. Such a dual policy, in his opinion, only hinders the resolution of the current situation.

Call to Lift the Blockade

Pezeshkian strongly urged the USA to remove all barriers that hinder constructive dialogue. He identified the immediate lifting of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a key step.

Situation in the Strait of Hormuz

Despite the extended ceasefire between the USA and Iran last week, the situation with shipping in the strait remains extremely tense. Only five ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz daily, which sharply contrasts with the pre-conflict figure of 130 vessels per day.

Iran's Rejection of "Maximalist Demands"

On April 25, Reuters, citing a Pakistani diplomatic source, reported Iran's firm rejection of the "maximalist demands" of the USA. These demands were put forward during peace negotiations held in Islamabad. The source clarified that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clearly articulated his country's "principled positions" to Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other high-ranking officials. After this, Araghchi and his delegation left Islamabad.
