Baltics at Risk: Ukrainian General Warns of Hybrid Attacks from Russia

Russia is actively increasing its arsenal of long-range drones, which could become a powerful lever for blackmail and pressure. For the Baltic states, trust in NATO is not the only key factor; readiness for lightning-fast hybrid threats is also crucial.

Reserve Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Krivonos warned on "Kyiv24" about potential threats to the Baltic states. He noted that Russian occupiers may use drone strikes and engage a "fifth column" for attacks.

According to Krivonos, the "fifth column" is capable of rapidly paralyzing the internal situation in the Baltic states. Furthermore, Russia is actively accumulating long-range drones, which could become a powerful tool for blackmail and pressure.

The reserve major general emphasized that for the Baltics, belief in Article 5 of NATO is not the only important factor. Preparedness for rapid hybrid attacks is becoming a key issue in the current situation.

Concerns about a War between Russia and NATO

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed serious concerns on April 24. He stated that Russia could attack a NATO country in the coming months, rather than years.

Tusk also raised the issue of the United States' readiness to fulfill its obligations to NATO. He doubts their ability to protect European countries in the event of such an attack.

Accusations and Intelligence Data

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made accusations against the Baltic states. She claimed that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are allegedly providing airspace to Ukraine for strikes against Russia, and they "will have to pay for it" if they do not stop.

However, Estonian intelligence currently does not have data on Russia preparing a new front against the Baltic states. The head of the Estonian Defense Forces' intelligence center, Colonel Ants Kiviselg, emphasized that the Kremlin's decisions are often unpredictable.
